About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the technical lead for maintaining and supporting the customer’s manufacturing control systems (e.g., steel casting).
- Lead ABB Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) activities on site, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and safe operation of all automation systems.
- Interpret and apply customer documentation, including control lists, drawings, electrical one‑lines, P&IDs, schematics, and other technical specifications.
- Program and troubleshoot controller and HMI applications using ABB and third‑party PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell ControlLogix), applying IEC 61131 programming languages and configuring associated HMI devices.
- Perform hands‑on fieldwork, including operation and support of industrial networks and communication systems using standard bus protocols such as Ethernet‑based devices.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's degree in process, electrical, or mechanical engineering or technology required.
- Experience in lieu of training with maintaining heavy industrial processes in chemical, metal, or rubber.
- Military (ship controls) experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience is required.
- Performing hands‑on work with control systems and HMI hardware/software.
- Configuring control system software, hardware, and industrial communication protocols, with working knowledge of Modbus and DeviceNet.
- Applying controls engineering design experience, including control panel layouts and system integration.
- Developing and troubleshooting control programs for industrial applications, including heavy‑industry processes.
- Demonstrating working knowledge of AC/DC motors and drives, as well as general industrial electrical and automation principles.
