About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide contributions to the actuarial pricing and reserving group based on knowledge from the actuarial exam system and prior relevant academic or work experience.
- Mentor Actuarial Analyst colleagues while applying their knowledge to actuarial analysis of personal lines.
- Extract, manipulate, and validate data from relevant sources, and assess data quality.
- Supporting the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad-hoc requests/special projects in a timely manner with some support from peers and leaders.
- Evaluate procedures and processes and suggest potential alternatives or improvements.
- Maintain knowledge of current industry news and trends and consider their impact on Wawanesa.
- Represent Wawanesa at external events that may include universities, actuarial clubs, industry organizations, and charitable causes.
- Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross-functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies.
- Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and build trust with teams around the actuarial function.
- Contribute to the mentorship, training and development of actuarial analysts.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline.
- Two years of actuarial experience with experience in California personal lines preferred.
- Have completed a minimum of four actuarial exams and plan to continue to complete examinations required to obtain fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
- Proficient SQL and data manipulation skills an asset.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Computer/Programming Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Excel, R, Python and/or other related software/programming languages/actuarial software.
- Solid foundation of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business knowledge, and ability to apply this knowledge to problems in insurance.
- Ability to suggest solutions or alternative approaches to significantly material issues.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner, proactively keeping leader informed of progress.
