About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide contributions to the actuarial pricing and reserving group based on knowledge from the actuarial exam system and prior relevant academic or work experience.
  • Mentor Actuarial Analyst colleagues while applying their knowledge to actuarial analysis of personal lines.
  • Extract, manipulate, and validate data from relevant sources, and assess data quality.
  • Supporting the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad-hoc requests/special projects in a timely manner with some support from peers and leaders.
  • Evaluate procedures and processes and suggest potential alternatives or improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry news and trends and consider their impact on Wawanesa.
  • Represent Wawanesa at external events that may include universities, actuarial clubs, industry organizations, and charitable causes.
  • Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross-functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies.
  • Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and build trust with teams around the actuarial function.
  • Contribute to the mentorship, training and development of actuarial analysts.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline.
  • Two years of actuarial experience with experience in California personal lines preferred.
  • Have completed a minimum of four actuarial exams and plan to continue to complete examinations required to obtain fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Proficient SQL and data manipulation skills an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer/Programming Skills: Intermediate knowledge of Excel, R, Python and/or other related software/programming languages/actuarial software.
  • Solid foundation of actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance and business knowledge, and ability to apply this knowledge to problems in insurance.
  • Ability to suggest solutions or alternative approaches to significantly material issues.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner, proactively keeping leader informed of progress.
