About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide system development, enhancement, and maintenance support for a payroll application of a U.S. Government client
  • Ensure requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods
  • Translate high-level product development strategies into system requirement specifications
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements
  • Establish and coordinate development standards, practices, and procedures for product development
  • Design interfaces and integrate system elements
  • Assess performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures
  • Liaise with customers and support business development activities to understand and shape requirements
  • Participate in system conceptual design and document design concepts
  • Contribute to hardware and software component design reviews
  • Generate system-level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures
  • Review test plans and procedures and participate in testing to validate requirements
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems, or direct programmers and analysts in making changes
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify database identifiers
  • Coordinate database development as part of a project team and determine project scope and limitations
  • Review database project requests and estimate time and cost to complete them

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a US Citizen (no dual citizenship)
  • 5+ years of mainframe experience using COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2
  • Prior experience working with FOCUS COBOL
  • Ability to design, code, and test software requirements
  • Basic knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, from business/systems analysis through requirements gathering, functional specification authoring, development, testing, and delivery
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology is a plus
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to obtain DoD Public Trust clearance
  • Must not have traveled outside the US for a combined total of 6 months or more in the last 5 years
  • Must have resided in the US for the last 5 years
