Self-Pay Collections Specialist II

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Follow-up work on Self Pay account balances
- Handle inbound calls generated by auto-dialer to secure payment
- Establish payment arrangements and obtain updated patient information
- Collect full payment from patient or guarantor
- Apply payments collected over the phone to each date of service
- Handle customer inquiries, disputes and complaints
- Document terms in billing system
- Evaluate the patients ability to pay for services
- Utilize Epic estimator tool to provide estimates and collect upfront payments
- Determine coverage for planned clinical services and calculate patient expected out of pocket expenses
- Answer and return phone calls and other general office tasks
- Perform other job duties as required.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school graduate or GED certificate
- A minimum of 1 years experience in a physician billing or third-party payer environment
- Strong customer service and patient focused orientation
- Ability to communicate, adapt, and respond to complex situations
- Understanding of contracts, insurance benefits, exclusions, and other billing requirements
- Effective communication skills both verbally and written
- Functional proficiency in computer software skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, E-mail)
- Patient financial and practice management system experience in Epic or other electronic billing systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
- Previous call center experience and/or claims experience is preferred
- Previous experience in an academic healthcare setting is preferred.
