Platform Engineer

• Build and maintain core data pipelines: Design and operate reliable, business-ready data models and transformation pipelines using dbt, SQL, and Python to support analytics and downstream use cases.
• Scale our data platform: Contribute to the design and operation of AWS-based data infrastructure (including Terraform), balancing scalability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
• Strengthen orchestration and reliability: Help build and evolve our Dagster-based orchestration platform, improving monitoring, resilience, and operational maturity.
• Enable self-service analytics: Deliver high-quality foundational datasets and tooling that improve data accessibility and accelerate decision-making across the business.
• Improve data quality and trust: Apply software engineering best practices (CI/CD, testing, documentation) to ensure data products are robust, auditable, and trusted.

• Helping define and evolve Simple Machines’ data platform propositions, technical direction, and strategic positioning
• Advising enterprise clients on modern data platform strategy, architecture, operating models, and AI readiness
• Supporting organisations as they evolve from traditional centralised data platforms toward AI-native, real-time, and data product-oriented operating models
• Working closely with Engagement Managers and senior leadership across major strategic initiatives
• Leading architecture and technical direction for complex enterprise data platform and transformation programs
• Acting as a senior technical counterpart across strategic client engagements and partner relationships

• Design and build the cloud foundations that empower teams across the organization to innovate with AI—safely, at scale, and with speed
• Support the development of innovative products, insights, and efficiencies that will impact the future of our business
• Build secure, reusable AWS infrastructure components to support internal AI and data solution teams
• Implement platform observability with proactive monitoring and alerting for all AI and ML workloads
• Embed FinOps practices into platform design to drive cloud cost visibility and optimisation
• Stay across emerging AI tech and AWS updates to continually enhance platform capabilities
• Influence internal standards and tooling to reflect high-quality AI infrastructure
