Legal Assistant

• Evaluate and interpret legal documents and stakeholder communications in support of 2-4 Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) to determine and implement appropriate processing decisions based on applicable statutes, rules, and agency policies and procedures
• Serve as liaison between the parties and the ALJs and Workers’ Compensation Hearings Division to interpret and resolve problems through negotiation
• Be responsible for complete working knowledge of applicable statutes, rules and policies as they apply to various situations that arise from processing legal documents, telephone requests and contacts with outside stakeholders

Judicial Assistant, Paralegal

• Prepare legal documents such as petitions, summons, subpoenas, and orders for Assistant Attorney General review.
• Conduct research and connect with partner agencies to gather essential information for service of legal documents.
• Effect service of legal documents to parties, community partners, witnesses, and business entities.
• Maintain calendars of required court hearings, appearances, and document due dates.
• Monitor and update case information as well as court and agency deadlines using an electronic case management system.
• File legal documents using the court’s eFiling system.

Litigation Legal Assistant – Child Advocacy and Protection Division

• Assist with drafting pleadings and discovery
• Electronic filing of documents in state and federal courts
• Update client systems
• Assist attorneys with court hearing and trial preparation
• Prepare initial drafts of discovery documents and pleadings using templates
• Perform other duties as assigned to support department goals
• May occasionally work extended hours based on operational needs

• Perform a variety of extensive legal research and writing on complex factual, medical, and legal issues to develop knowledge of Oregon workers’ compensation law

WCB Law Clerk

• Access eCourt daily on filed criminal cases to determine action needed
• Manage unit case files and docket
• Enter referrals
• Assist unit staff in preparing and proofreading legal documents
• Manage staff calendars
• File court documents
