Database Administrator

• As the Platform Database Administrator (DBA) for Aurora, serve as the architectural and operational anchor for high-scale database environments.
• Bridge the gap between technical data layers and production feature engineering.
• Take full ownership of database performance tuning, optimization strategies, and system reliability across core software suites.
• Sustain consistent system performance and reliability across 400+ database schemas, managing comprehensive schema migrations and tracking client-specific data growth metrics.
• Supervise AWS Aurora-specific environments, orchestrating cluster endpoint routing configurations, managing failover behaviors, executing parameter tuning, and troubleshooting data warehouse / read replica lags.
• Apply deep knowledge of InnoDB core internals to manage lock behaviors, resolve complex lock contentions, adjust buffer pool parameters, and systematically reduce purge lags across write-heavy database clusters.
• Diagnose and optimize heavy database pipelines utilizing INSERT...SELECT queries and computed-table patterns.
• Analyze Aurora instance utilization models against pricing factors to right-size compute resources and minimize I/O waste stemming from unoptimized queries.

Platform Database Administrator, Aurora/MySQL

• Manage and support multiple database platforms, including SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Ensure database performance, availability, and reliability across environments
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues in production systems
• Implement best practices for database maintenance, backups, and recovery
• Collaborate with engineering teams to support application development and data needs
• Optimize queries and database structures for performance and scalability

• Assist in managing AWS RDS instances by monitoring database health, identifying performance issues, and participating in root-cause investigations
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 database availability and rapid response to production incidents across our global infrastructure
• Execute quarterly patching, monthly index reviews, and backup integrity testing within a live production environment
• Advance your T-SQL knowledge by participating in code reviews and assisting Developer and TechOps teams with query optimization and execution
• Utilize Python, PowerShell, and other scripting languages to build or maintain automation tools (e.g., AWS Lambdas, GitHub Action workflows, etc.)
• Manage user permissions, SOPs, and disaster recovery runbooks while helping ensure regulatory framework compliance (including HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC2) across all database systems

Junior Database Administrator

• Design, install, monitor, maintain, and optimize Network Health Plan databases

• This is a high-impact, hands-on engagement where you’ll work directly with clinical and IT leadership to ensure the data infrastructure powering Epic’s Cogito and Caboodle platforms — as well as the broader Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server estate — is tuned, resilient, and architected for long-term scalability.
• Conduct a full architecture review of Epic’s Cogito (operational reporting data warehouse) and Caboodle (enterprise analytics data warehouse) implementations.
• Assess ETL pipelines, Clarity-to-Caboodle data flows, index strategies, and query execution plans for performance bottlenecks.
• Validate Cogito/Caboodle configuration against Epic best practices and recommend tuning adjustments.
• Partner with Epic analysts and report writers to optimize Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle query performance.
• Perform deep-dive performance tuning across Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server instances supporting clinical, financial, and ancillary systems.

• Develop and implement indexing strategies, query rewrites, partitioning schemes, and maintenance plans.
• Map the complete database landscape: inventory all Oracle and SQL Server instances, versions, patch levels, and dependencies.
• Assess high availability and disaster recovery configurations (Always On AG, Data Guard, RAC) and recommend improvements.
• Evaluate security posture including encryption, access controls, auditing, and compliance with HIPAA/HITECH requirements.
• Deliver a comprehensive architecture assessment report with prioritized remediation roadmap and executive-level recommendations.
• Provide knowledge transfer sessions and runbook documentation for the internal DBA team.
