Database Administrator

• Own the performance, availability, and security of our database estate, ensuring production systems consistently meet SLA targets.
• Plan and carry out scheduled maintenance, including out-of-hours patching, and support product deployments with schema change implementation across all environments.
• Monitor system health, diagnose slow-running queries, and work with development teams to resolve performance issues and reduce technical debt.
• Support and guide developers on good database design, and assist with approval and optimisation of DB change release processes.
• Build and maintain repeatable, automated infrastructure and proactive monitoring for both production and non-production environments.
• Manage data security, backup, archiving, replication, and disaster recovery - including regular DR testing.
• Develop and support Dataflow and Datastream jobs to power data imports into our BigQuery data warehouse.

• Ensuring all SQL environments operate at optimal performance, maintaining high availability and minimal downtime across ERP, WMS, and integrations.
• Acting as the primary owner for SQL Server and Azure SQL environments, establishing standards, governance, and best practices.
• Implementing monitoring, alerting, and maintenance routines to identify and resolve issues before they impact the business.
• Designing, implementing, and regularly testing backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
• Managing database access, permissions, and auditing to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Optimising and supporting databases used in integrations (e.g. APIs, Azure Functions), ensuring efficient and reliable data flows.
• Partnering with developers, analysts, and system owners to improve data models, query performance, and delivery speed.
• Driving automation of database processes and continuous optimisation of performance, scalability, and cost.

• Administer, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL databases running on Amazon RDS and Aurora.
• Perform regular database maintenance tasks, including backup validation, replication checks, patching, and upgrades.
• Collaborate with developers to optimize SQL and database objects, maintain PL/pgSQL routines, and contribute to data modeling initiatives to enhance performance.
• Set up and fine-tune database performance metrics, logs, and alerts using AWS CloudWatch, pg_stat_statements, and other tools.
• Identify and improve slow-running queries.
• Implement and manage access control, auditing, and security policies in line with organizational standards.
• Create and maintain database documentation and deployment scripts.
• Contribute to and follow best practices for schema changes, migrations, and version control of database objects (GitHub experience is a plus).
• Contribute to DevOps processes, including database CI/CD and automation of schema deployment automation.

Senior Database Admin

• You will be keeping our data safe, secure and performing at optimal levels using different technologies including MS SQL Server and MongoDB.
• Owning and resolving database related incidents and requests.
• Fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within agreed SLAs.
• Reviewing service-related reports and notifications.
• Responding to database related alerts / escalations.
• Engineering solutions to recurring problems.
• Ensure Database Systems are highly available and comply with global and regional standards.
• Provide project support, liaising with key stakeholders to ensure a high level of service.
• Build / migrate database environments according to standard templates and best practice.
• Identify and work with CTS and business teams to implement process improvement.
• Any other reasonable activity including supporting and assisting with system upgrades.
