About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop Fail-Operational capabilities for the Zoox mobility service
- Lead the design of Fail-Operational behaviors while balancing safety, reliability, and operational efficiency
- Partner with the functional safety team to identify product risks and quantify fail-operational performance
- Own the design and implementation of features with Hardware, Software, Operations, IT, Safety, Manufacturing, and Validation teams throughout the entire V cycle
- Create and maintain high-quality, verifiable requirements and model-based designs
- Decompose stakeholder input to drive clarity and precision for systems specifications
- Lead triage with cross-functional stakeholders for bugs and reported issues
- Deliver design solutions, systems engineering documentation, multi-quarter capability plans, verification plans, and debug support
- Collaborate with Product, Safety, Operations, Legal, and other systems engineering stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8 years of engineering work experience alongside a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics
- Experience designing complex systems integrating multiple hardware and software components
- Solid understanding of full hardware/software development lifecycles
- Demonstrated ability to deliver technical documentation, including context diagrams, requirement decomposition, and presentations
- Proven leadership, organization, and communication skills
- Prior experience in fail-operational or safety-critical systems design is a bonus qualification
- Experience with software development and architecture principles is a bonus qualification
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or JAMA is a bonus qualification
- Experience with MBSE tools such as Cameo, MagicDraw, or CATIA Magic is a bonus qualification
