About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Audit the existing internal platform and identify friction points, inconsistencies, and opportunities for measurable improvement.
- Design clean, modern, minimalistic interfaces that prioritize clarity, hierarchy, and speed of use.
- Systematize. Build and contribute to a reusable component library and design system to ensure consistency across the platform.
- Partner with engineering, product, and end-users to validate ideas through interviews, usability tests, and rapid iteration.
- Translate complex internal workflows into simple, intuitive UI patterns that follow industry best practices.
- Define and track UX metrics (task completion time, error rate, satisfaction) to demonstrate the impact of your work.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or a related field — or a self-taught designer with a strong portfolio
- Good academic standing
- Able to commit to a 12-week internship during the following summer 2026 cohort: June 15th - September 4th
- Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, CA for the duration of the internship
- Interns at Zoox may not use any proprietary information they are working on as part of their thesis, any published work with their university, or to be distributed to anyone outside of Zoox
