About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build mission-critical web applications and API backends for central MoD programmes
  • Contribute to low-level system integrations on tactical edge and Situational Awareness platforms
  • Design and build resilient, secure web applications, microservices, and APIs for cloud and hybrid MoD landing zones
  • Develop native Android background services, IPC/AIDL interfaces, and Cursor-on-Target data routers
  • Connect front-end C2 displays such as OmniTAK and ATAK to backend services
  • Ensure code follows MoD Secure by Design principles and Def Stan 00-056 safety boundaries
  • Automate build, test, and containerisation pipelines for air-gapped and enterprise cloud environments
  • Lead technical user stories on funded MoD statements of work
  • Participate in Agile delivery ceremonies
  • Mentor mid-level engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Active UK SC Clearance (minimum) with UK nationality/sovereignty requirements
  • Hands-on experience delivering under MoD software development standards and Secure by Design frameworks
  • 4+ years of production experience with modern web stacks: TypeScript, React, Node.js, or Python/FastAPI
  • Strong API design experience with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and WebSocket
  • Relational and non-relational database design, including PostgreSQL and SQLite
  • Proficiency in Kotlin or Java on native Android environments
  • Experience with Android background services, thread management, and IPC via AIDL/Binders
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures, local socket communication, and memory optimization under resource-constrained conditions
  • Desirable: experience with TAK/ATAK, WinTAK, OmniTAK, Cursor-on-Target/CoT, or STANAG 4586
  • Desirable: familiarity with K3s, Podman, Room, or RocksDB
  • Desirable: knowledge of Def Stan 00-056/00-055 and ALARP risk management
