Animal Tech 4 Lead – Husbandry, Gnotobiotics
Yale UniversityAnimal Tech 4 Lead providing operational assistance and overseeing husbandry standards at Yale University. Ensuring quality control and conducting routine assessments in animal care facilities.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide operational assistance to the Manager and Supervisor of Husbandry
- Ensure and maintain established standards by performing scheduled quality control assessments
- Serve as the principal source of information for the assigned area
- Coordinate and oversee program activities for animal environments within designated Unit
- Perform and monitor physical environmental parameters
- Report changes in room populations for the rodent QA program
- Participate in startup meetings for in vivo use of hazardous agents
- Maintain inventory of food, bedding, and supplies
- Observe and evaluate animals for signs of illness and deviations in conditions
- Perform animal care under veterinary oversight and provide treatments
- Train and/or instruct staff on animal care and sanitation techniques
- Maintain records as required by institutional regulations.
- Assist with SOP development and perform other related tasks as necessary.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Six years of related work experience
- Four years of experience in the same job family at the next lower level
- High school level education or four years of related experience and an Associate Degree
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Must be willing and able to obtain BSL2 certification
- Well-developed interpersonal skills and proven experience working within a team
- Accuracy, reliability, and attention to detail when utilizing required forms, files, and records
- Computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Ability to recognize signs of animal well-being, illness, and abnormalities
- Sensitivity to and appreciation of research animals
- Ability to work with species that present a scratch/bite hazard
- Ability to work in conditions with zoonotic disease transmission hazard
- Ability to work in an area with high noise that may require hearing protection
- Ability to lift 50lbs and push/pull 70 lbs
- Good attendance record.
