About the role

  • Create software initiatives spanning multiple teams; guide engineering practices and help teams achieve product goals via world-class engineering techniques
  • Advocate for adoption of new technology and tooling and guide teams in defining and implementing SLOs; ensure security and data guidelines are implemented
  • Deliver Golden Pathway tooling: guide strategy and implementation to remove complexity and enable engineering teams to innovate on top of the database platform
  • Resolve issues by focusing on systemic and strategic prevention, implement practices and tooling to limit scope for failure; participate in on-call roster
  • Define and promote engineering standards and frameworks; research industry best practice and represent team feedback in upcoming standards
  • Deliver infrastructure in production environments: guide teams to deliver scalable and efficient infrastructure, balance automation and performance, ensure pipelines are fit for purpose, coach engineers, and contribute to system design

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on expertise and deep technical knowledge spanning both software engineering and DevOps
  • Extensive experience in hands-on technical leadership positions
  • Multiple years of experience running PostgreSQL workloads at scale
  • Previous experience modernising database workloads to PostgreSQL
  • Experience running migrations from self hosted infrastructure to cloud managed
  • Technical leadership experience on cloud-native platforms with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Experience leading discussions and implementation for scaling products to 10x users
  • Proven experience leading large complex projects to delivery
  • Strong communicator with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and present at executive level
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers across all levels
  • Participation in team on-call roster and operational incident prevention
  • Knowledge of SLOs, security and data guidelines, and engineering best practices
