About the role
- Champion Product Compliance: Own the regulatory landscape for our NZ products, ensuring full compliance with local standards in tax, payroll, accounting, and cyber security.
- Translate Regulation into Action: Monitor changes from key bodies (e.g., MBIE, Inland Revenue) and translate complex legislation into clear, actionable requirements for our product and technology teams.
- Shape Future Products: Provide strategic regulatory guidance on our product roadmaps, embedding compliance into the design of new features from the very beginning.
- Build Our Compliance Framework: Partner with leaders across Product, Technology, and Legal to design and implement the risk frameworks that safeguard our products and customers.
- Be the Voice of Xero: Build influential relationships with government agencies and professional bodies, representing Xero in technical working groups to help shape future policy.
- Provide Expert Guidance: Act as the go-to subject matter expert for regulatory queries across the business, including supporting our M&A team with compliance due diligence.
Requirements
- 7+ years experience in public practice with focus on taxation, compliance or business services
- 5+ years working collaboratively in technology, software or with Revenue Agencies
- Experienced in use of a broad range of accounting, tax and payroll software and the preparation of financial statements and tax returns
- Experienced in writing technical advice addressing complex specialist issues, with in-depth analysis, evaluation and interpretation, often requiring the ability to gain acceptance or change of thinking
- Experienced collaborating and working with a broad range of stakeholders including senior leadership, external customers, technical peers
- Experience with risk assessments and product roadmaps is advantageous
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Commerce, Law, Taxation, Finance or similar
- Qualified accountant or bookkeeper and current member of professional body
