About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner with the Engineering Manager to set the technical vision for Xero's Salesforce platform
Translate the technical vision into a clear, sequenced and executable action plan
Own platform strategy and execution while creating leverage for dependent engineering teams
Model engineering excellence and build technical capability and development practices across dependent pods
Challenge the platform architecture and coach engineers across multiple disciplines
Collaborate with product, security, data governance and AI operations teams
Own the Salesforce platform's cross-cutting security posture, including access controls, Connected Apps governance, vulnerability remediation, and security tooling decisions
Own deployment pipelines and the release-engineering program across major annual release cycles
Champion automation and improve developer experience for engineers shipping changes
Own data governance, GDPR data deletion, retention, archival strategy, and compliant data-handling standards
Maintain and expand platform observability, manage org limits, and mitigate production risk
Own maintenance and growth of the Salesforce D360 pipeline and its platform integrations
Set direction for AI operations, including agent registry, observability, evaluation baselines, and Agentforce alignment
Contribute to Xero's engineering standards and frameworks
Enable delivery teams to adopt required capabilities and standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

Technical leadership experience delivering and operating Salesforce solutions at enterprise scale
Platform-engineering mindset focused on building for and enabling engineering teams
Depth and breadth of knowledge as a Salesforce developer
Willingness to remain hands-on while planning and delegating execution
Experience owning CI/CD pipelines and release-engineering modernization across major release cycles
Hands-on experience with GitHub, SFDX, and test automation
Ability to make code and design decisions across multiple teams' products
Ability to lead or facilitate application and platform architecture discussions
Expertise in distributed systems architecture
Experience scaling and hardening platforms used by many teams
Proven track record in security posture ownership
Exposure to AI and agent platforms such as Agentforce
Understanding of AI operations concepts including observability and evaluation
Ability and appetite to set direction in a greenfield space
Understanding of servant leadership
Strong coaching and mentoring skills across multiple disciplines
Ability to ensure platform and pod work meets Xero's engineering standards
Applicants must have appropriate working rights for Australia, as the role is based there
