About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Help design, support, and optimize the data systems that power critical environmental research for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Ensure that large volumes of environmental data are efficiently stored, managed, and delivered across modern cloud and hybrid environments.
Work closely with federal stakeholders and technical teams to develop scalable solutions that support data orchestration, automation, and operational reliability.
Manage PostgreSQL databases, optimize SQL based workflows, and support Python driven automation and CI/CD processes that keep data systems running smoothly.
Ensure data integrity, improve system performance, and support the continuous flow of mission critical information across research and operational platforms.

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Or at least 4 years of relevant experience accompanied by active IT certifications Or at least 8 years of experience in lieu of a degree
Experience writing efficient SQL, managing PostgreSQL databases, and handling large datasets to ensure accurate and high-performance data processing
Proficient in Python for automating data workflows and improving data management efficiency
Experience with CI/CD practices, including automating database provisioning and using GitLab or GitHub for version control and deployment workflows
Comfortable using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy, manage, and scale cloud-based applications and databases
