About the role

  • Lead the design and implementation of large-scale FHIR R4 interoperability solutions for real-time clinical, diagnostic, and administrative data exchange
  • Architect and guide integrations across EMR, CIS, registries, and diagnostic systems using HL7, FHIR, CDA, RESTful APIs, FHIRcast, and SMART on FHIR
  • Design and oversee Single Sign-On (SSO) and digital identity integrations using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and SMART on FHIR
  • Architect Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and patient/provider identity management solutions
  • Define and maintain FHIR-based interface patterns aligned with Canada Health Infoway, pan-Canadian FHIR specifications, and eReferral/eOrder standards
  • Provide architectural governance across clinical platforms such as Oracle Health/Cerner, Meditech, Telus PS Suite, MOIS, and Accuro
  • Ensure secure, scalable integration architectures using microservices, hybrid cloud, and API-based designs
  • Collaborate with privacy, governance, security, and clinical informatics teams to ensure compliance with FIPPA, PIPA, and Infoway standards
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for interoperability solutions using Azure DevOps and GitHub
  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture standards, roadmaps, and reference models aligned to provincial digital health strategies
  • Engage with vendors, health authorities, and system partners to ensure architectural alignment and solution sustainability

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of enterprise architecture and solution design experience in large, complex organizations
  • Mandatory experience in the BC health sector, specifically delivering digital referrals and orders services
  • Strong hands-on expertise with HL7, FHIR (R4), CDA, and healthcare terminology standards (SNOMED CT, LOINC)
  • Proven experience implementing SMART on FHIR–based authentication, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC
  • Experience integrating EMR and CIS platforms (Cerner, Meditech, Telus PS Suite, MOIS, Accuro)
  • Strong knowledge of identity and access management (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, Azure AD)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
