About the role

  • Manages the global payroll operations team, including equity-related payroll processes
  • Contributes to and leads the execution of the strategic direction for the payroll process while meeting key controls and payroll compliance
  • Reviews and audits payroll prepared by staff and third-party providers to ensure compliance with in-house policies, tax laws, and statutory regulations.
  • Consults, partners with, and provides guidance to the People Business Partners and People Operations on Workiva payroll practices and employee impact
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust global payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Transform processes to improve the payroll experience for team members by leveraging AI and other tools.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and manage changing legal, tax, and regulatory demands and their effects on processes and procedures
  • Ensures tax, audit, and accounting expectations and obligations are fulfilled accurately by required deadlines
  • Leads and supports broad-based payroll-related projects and initiatives (e.g., system enhancements, new country setup, et al.)
  • Provide support to our stock plan administrators in managing the local payroll tax
  • Leverage payroll data and analytics to provide strategic insights that inform business decisions, optimize resource allocation, and contribute to Workiva's competitive advantage.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for escalations and various ad hoc requests
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in payroll operations, preferably in a public company
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a high-performing team
  • Ability to interact and build trusted advisor relationships with key internal and external business partners, including senior leadership
  • Self-motivated with a strong propensity for action, results, and continuous improvement
  • The ability to work successfully in a high-energy, fast-paced, rapidly changing environment is necessary
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple processes, programs, and procedures simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Experience with multi-national payroll operations.
  • Experience with the following systems is preferred (Workday, CloudPay, OneSource Virtual, Shareworks, Deel)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A high level of confidentiality, judgment, and discretion
  • Travel Requirements and Working Conditions: 10% Travel for internal meetings
