About the role

  • Design and implement effective hedge accounting strategies supporting the bank's risk management framework
  • Assess potential hedge accounting relationships (effectiveness, designation, hedge ratio)
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive hedge accounting documentation (hedge designation reports, effectiveness testing results, fair value measurements)
  • Perform fair value measurements for hedged and hedging instruments using appropriate valuation methodologies
  • Calculate and record hedge accounting adjustments, including hedge ineffectiveness adjustments
  • Manage regular effectiveness testing and adjust hedging strategies to maintain effectiveness
  • Report internal and external statutory view of hedge accounting effectiveness for Barclays Annual Accounts
  • Monthly monitoring and reporting of segmental (head office) and statutory P&L
  • Model management of bespoke hedge accounting activities
  • Interact with stakeholders across multiple functions and business areas, act as contact point outside immediate function

Requirements

  • Basic hedge accounting knowledge (cash flow and fair value) advantageous
  • Experience in a financial institution with interest rates as key managed risk
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (presentations, policy documents, stakeholder meetings/forums)
  • Initiative and ability to break down problems and resolve them
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Desirable: experience linking entity results through to financial statement production
  • Fully qualified accountant
  • Degree (or higher) educated, from a top tier university
  • Desirable: CFA or master’s in finance/financial engineering
  • Desirable: Articleship / Industrial trainee in mid to large sized firms
  • Desirable: Audit exposure in large financial institutions / banks preferred
  • Ability to lead and supervise a team and demonstrate leadership behaviours (where applicable)
