About the role

  • You will research relevant datasets, identify suitable data sources and prepare the data for journalistic use.
  • You will clean, structure and analyze data to identify trends, anomalies and topics of regional relevance.
  • You will develop data-driven stories that matter to our local readers.
  • You will write data-journalism articles and explain complex issues clearly and accessibly.
  • You will create graphics and interactive data visualizations, primarily using the 23degrees tool.
  • You will work closely with local newsrooms, support the use of prepared data and advise on graphic implementation.
  • If relevant during the internship period, you will contribute to automation projects, e.g. text automation for election results.

Requirements

  • You have initial experience working with datasets, including cleaning, analysis and interpretation; basic knowledge of statistics is an advantage.
  • You have basic skills in data analysis tools such as Excel and ideally some first experience in data visualization, e.g. with 23degrees.
  • Ideally, you have experience with the statistics tool R.
  • You have some journalistic experience, for example through an editorial internship, a journalism degree, or attendance at a journalism school.
  • You enjoy working in a team and communicate confidently and openly with colleagues from different newsrooms.
  • You are motivated to learn new things and enjoy diving deeply into data, topics and complex relationships.
