About the role
- Expand a VLM-based driving system with knowledge of driving dynamics as part of an interdisciplinary research project
- Analyse deficits of current Visual Language Model (VLM)-based driving systems regarding driving dynamics
- Develop methods to close gaps via targeted training data, hybrid model architectures or integration of physical models
- Analyse driving dynamics capabilities of existing VLM-based driving systems
- Develop benchmarks for evaluating physically realistic vehicle control
- Integrate vehicle dynamics models into multimodal AI systems
- Fine-tune large language models for domain-specific applications
- Evaluate via simulation and transfer results into real-world driving scenarios
- Define final doctoral topic together with supervising professor
Requirements
- Good to very good university degree (Master's or Diploma) qualifying for doctoral studies in computer science, robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, cognitive science or related field
- Confirmation of supervision and confirmed delimitation of topics by a professor entitled to confer a doctorate
- Sound knowledge in at least one of: Machine learning, computer vision, automotive engineering, control engineering
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Good knowledge of programming languages (Python)
- Interest in interdisciplinary research and complex technical systems
- English language level B1
