About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Product Engineering from the concept phase through final vehicle release, focusing on powertrain systems, their components, and functional integration with the vehicle;
  • Define performance, durability, innovation, technology, and sustainability requirements and characteristics;
  • Perform measurements and data acquisition for objective analyses; conduct tests and subjective evaluations to assess system and component performance, as well as their impact on overall vehicle behavior;
  • Plan, prepare, and execute tests on vehicles, test benches, and climatic facilities, ensuring traceability, safety, and quality of results;
  • Manage end-to-end test activities (from request to final delivery), including scope alignment, execution, analysis, conclusions, and reporting;
  • Collaborate with test requesters, designers, and other stakeholders to define scope, requirements, acceptance criteria, and next steps;
  • Take ownership of full vehicle test activities when applicable, ensuring quality and consistency of results;
  • Present and communicate results clearly and in a structured manner to both technical and non-technical audiences, supporting engineering decisions;
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of test methods, procedures, and instrumentation;
  • Participate in test campaigns under different climate conditions (e.g., summer/winter), including travel as required by projects;
  • Propose and validate material optimizations focused on weight and cost reduction, applying knowledge of material strength and vehicle dynamics;
  • Analyze and interpret experimental and theoretical data, interfacing with instrumentation, structural analysis (FESA), and data acquisition systems;
  • Conduct benchmarking of competitor vehicles and automotive systems/components to support and guide product development;
  • Analyze failures using effective root cause analysis methodologies and propose solutions aligned with internal and external customer expectations;
  • Prepare technical documentation in accordance with engineering requirements, ensuring proper management of project KPIs.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Automotive, Production, Electrical, Control & Automation, or related fields);
  • Solid knowledge of thermodynamics and thermal systems/cooling for internal combustion engines and high-voltage batteries;
  • Experience with climatic and field testing;
  • Experience in product development and/or validation in the automotive industry, preferably in commercial vehicles (vehicle testing, system validation, failure analysis, and interface with suppliers and manufacturing/quality teams);
  • Fluent English is required for daily work with a multicultural Traton Group team;
  • Availability for national and international travel according to project and testing needs;
  • Driver’s license for trucks and buses (Category D or E);
  • Experience with project management methodologies, preferably agile approaches such as Lean/Agile.
