About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and validate brake systems for trucks and buses, ensuring compliance with safety, performance, and durability targets
  • Define brake system architecture and technical requirements considering GVW, payload variation, axle configurations (4x2, 6x2, 6x4, etc.), and trailer operation
  • Perform brake balance studies, torque distribution calculations, and stopping distance simulations for fully loaded and partially loaded conditions
  • Support EBS/ABS/ESC calibration activities to ensure vehicle stability during braking maneuvers such as μ-split, downhill braking, emergency stops, and articulated vehicle conditions
  • Conduct vehicle validation tests including:
  • Service brake performance (cold/hot performance)
  • Fade and recovery tests
  • Mountain/downhill performance tests
  • Parking brake performance
  • Split-μ and stability tests
  • Trailer brake compatibility validation
  • Analyze acquisition data (brake pressure, wheel speed, deceleration, temperature, articulation angle, etc.) to support engineering decisions
  • Participate in design reviews with global teams and suppliers, ensuring compliance with regulatory and platform requirements
  • Support root cause analysis related to brake performance, air system efficiency, or field issues
  • Prepare technical reports, validation documentation, and engineering recommendations for internal and external stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, or related fields
  • Solid knowledge of vehicle dynamics applied to commercial vehicles (trucks and buses), especially longitudinal dynamics, brake balance, load transfer, and vehicle stability under high CG conditions
  • Experience with air brake systems for heavy-duty vehicles (pneumatic systems, EBS, ABS, ESC for commercial vehicles)
  • Strong knowledge of foundation brakes (disc and drum brakes for heavy vehicles), slack adjusters, air compressors, valves, modulators, chambers, and air management systems
  • Experience in brake torque calculation, brake balance definition, thermal capacity sizing, fade performance, downhill braking performance, and parking brake performance
  • Understanding of axle load distribution, GVW/GCW impact, trailer integration, and combination vehicle braking behavior
  • Knowledge of regulations applicable to commercial vehicles (ECE R13, FMVSS 121, SAE standards, etc.)
  • Experience with vehicle testing (proving grounds and public roads), including high-load and downhill brake validation
  • Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis tools (CANalyzer, INCA, MDA, Diadem or similar)
  • Experience with simulation tools such as ADAMS, TruckSim, Matlab/Simulink, or similar tools for heavy-vehicle dynamic analysis
  • Basic knowledge of CATIA V5 for system layout and packaging evaluation
  • Driver’s License: Category D or E
  • Advanced/fluent English (technical)
