About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Gather accurate patient demographic and insurance information during inpatient/outpatient registration
Distribute appropriate information to all departments
Monitor physician-ordered diagnostic tests for medical necessity according to government guidelines
Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits and document information in the AS400
Notify the Supervisor of self-pay patients and the UR Department of insurance coverage issues
Ensure pre-certifications and authorizations are obtained by physician offices when required
Notify appropriate departments when required pre-certifications or authorizations are not obtained
Perform other duties as assigned according to departmental standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

Availability to work 8:30 AM–5:00 PM on weekdays
Knowledge of patient demographics and insurance information processes
Ability to verify insurance coverage and benefits
Ability to document information in the AS400
Knowledge of medical necessity requirements under government guidelines
Ability to manage pre-certifications and authorizations
Ability to perform duties according to departmental standards
