About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Gather accurate patient demographic and insurance information during inpatient/outpatient registration
- Distribute appropriate information to all departments
- Monitor physician-ordered diagnostic tests for medical necessity according to government guidelines
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits and document information in the AS400
- Notify the Supervisor of self-pay patients and the UR Department of insurance coverage issues
- Ensure pre-certifications and authorizations are obtained by physician offices when required
- Notify appropriate departments when required pre-certifications or authorizations are not obtained
- Perform other duties as assigned according to departmental standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Availability to work 8:30 AM–5:00 PM on weekdays
- Knowledge of patient demographics and insurance information processes
- Ability to verify insurance coverage and benefits
- Ability to document information in the AS400
- Knowledge of medical necessity requirements under government guidelines
- Ability to manage pre-certifications and authorizations
- Ability to perform duties according to departmental standards
