About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Advise and counsel the business on federal and state laws and regulations impacting mortgage lending, financial services and employment
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements
  • Support underwriting guideline updates
  • Provide legal support for the Company's technology initiatives
  • Direct the Company's default servicing, litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy strategy
  • Manage third party servicer and outside counsel
  • Oversee matters related to the preservation, listing, and disposition of REO properties
  • Collaborate with the Capital Markets team on securitization transactions
  • Support board governance matters
  • Partner with executive leadership and the board to strengthen governance, controls, and operational compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience in the financial services industry, including as an in-house counsel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and trust across an organization
  • Proven negotiation skills, business acumen and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to review and maintain documentation with strong attention to detail
