About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Advise and counsel the business on federal and state laws and regulations impacting mortgage lending, financial services and employment
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements
Support underwriting guideline updates
Provide legal support for the Company's technology initiatives
Direct the Company's default servicing, litigation, foreclosure, and bankruptcy strategy
Manage third party servicer and outside counsel
Oversee matters related to the preservation, listing, and disposition of REO properties
Collaborate with the Capital Markets team on securitization transactions
Support board governance matters
Partner with executive leadership and the board to strengthen governance, controls, and operational compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
8+ years of relevant legal experience in the financial services industry, including as an in-house counsel
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and trust across an organization
Proven negotiation skills, business acumen and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information
Ability to review and maintain documentation with strong attention to detail
