About the role

  • VetsEZ is seeking a skilled Linux Administrator to support enterprise healthcare IT modernization efforts for a federal client. The Linux Administrator will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Linux-based systems in both on-premises and cloud environments. This individual will play a key role in ensuring system reliability, performance, security, and compliance with federal standards. Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems across development, test, and production environments. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure availability and reliability. Apply patches, upgrades, and security hardening in accordance with organizational and federal requirements. Administer user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure system security and compliance. Manage system backups, recovery processes, and disaster recovery readiness. Support deployment and maintenance of middleware, databases, and application platforms hosted on Linux. Collaborate with network, database, and application teams to resolve cross-functional system issues. Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, standard operating procedures, and security compliance. Monitor system logs, automate routine tasks, and improve operational efficiency through scripting. Support security scans, vulnerability remediation, and compliance reporting. Participate in incident response and root cause analysis to strengthen system resilience. Provide technical expertise to program leadership on system architecture, upgrades, and integration planning. Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of experience administering Linux systems in enterprise environments. Proficiency with Linux distributions (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or equivalent). Experience with system monitoring tools, log management, and performance tuning. Strong shell scripting (Bash, Python, or similar) for automation and task management. Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef). Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls). Hands-on experience with backup/recovery and system security best practices. U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
