About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate and carry out geotechnical investigations
- Supervise implementation of geotechnical designs and construction monitoring services
- Conduct engineering assessments for slope instability, landslide susceptibility, risk assessments, soil characteristics, factor of safety, and slip surfaces
- Plan and manage field exploration and subsurface characterization
- Perform foundation, settlement, bearing-capacity, slope-stability, retaining-wall, and earthwork analyses
- Provide recommendations for foundation systems, pavements, site grading, and ground improvement
- Provide construction-phase support, including observation, testing coordination, and resolution of geotechnical issues
- Develop recommendations for geotechnical instrumentation installation and monitoring
- Coordinate with drillers and geotechnical laboratories
- Review, QA/QC, and assess laboratory results
- Write technical and geotechnical reports
- Plan and supervise field investigations, including borings, SPT, and test pits
- Analyze laboratory and field data to develop soil parameters
- Interface with clients, project managers, and contractors during design and construction
- Review construction submittals, perform site visits, and observe foundation installations
- Mentor junior engineers and field technicians
- Report to the Regional Manager of Geotechnical Engineering Services
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Texas, or the ability to obtain Texas licensure within an appropriate timeframe is preferred
- 5+ years of professional work experience in geotechnical engineering
- Local Texas experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical analysis
- Experience with Slope/W, GINT, Plaxis, Uni-Settle, L-Pile, and A-Pile
- Familiarity with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Google Earth, and Microsoft products
- Familiarity with ASTM/AASHTO testing standards and Texas construction practices
- Experience with soil logging and field investigation techniques, including auger drilling and sonic drilling
- Experience interpreting field and laboratory geotechnical data
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Valid Class C driver’s license in good standing
- Willingness to travel to project sites and conduct occasional fieldwork
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
