About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform transmission line design and analysis using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER for voltages up to and including 500 kV
  • Develop structure loading, framing, and connection designs in accordance with the NESC, ASCE (10/74/113), and client-specific standards
  • Prepare and check plan-and-profile drawings, structure and material lists, and construction packages
  • Perform sag-tension, clearance, and structure/foundation loading calculations
  • Coordinate foundation design with structural and geotechnical staff
  • Support field data collection, LiDAR-based modeling, and as-built verification
  • Collaborate across structural, civil, and environmental disciplines to deliver integrated projects
  • Mentor and check the work of junior engineers and designers
  • Interface with clients and contribute to proposals, scoping, and estimates

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field)
  • 4–8 years of transmission line engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER
  • Working knowledge of the NESC and applicable ASCE and utility design standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Preferred: Experience supporting major investor-owned utilities (e.g., CenterPoint, SDG&E, PG&E, Duke Energy, PPL)
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Electrical Engineering (or a closely related field)
  • Preferred: Owner’s Engineer or utility program-support experience
  • Preferred: Experience with grid-hardening, wildfire mitigation, or reconductoring programs
  • For Civil/Structural: Experience with foundation design (Direct Embed and Drilled Pier Foundations); working with Structural Fabricators; Detailed Steel Design of Transmission and Substation Structures
  • For Electrical: Experience with electrical transmission studies; hardware sizing for base insulation levels; ampacity & shielding calculations; conductor sizing; induction studies
