About the role

  • You are the technical leader for the E-Commerce SecOps & Observability team within the Platform Engineering Chapter at easyJet. This role is about taking requirements from engineering teams, planning how to deliver platform products efficiently, keeping your team running effectively to meet those needs, and working closely and collaboratively with other platform engineering teams.
  • Your success is measured by the adoption of your platform products - not through enforcement, but by making security and observability tools so easy and valuable to use that teams choose to adopt them. A key part of this is ensuring all capabilities integrate with the Backstage IDP, providing teams with an overview of their service health, security posture scorecards, and monitoring tool adoption directly through their service's Backstage page - giving them a single pane of glass without replicating entire tools.
  • You lead by doing, creating reference implementations and "Golden Paths" that make it easy for teams to get world-class observability and security from day one. You work closely with Platform Architects for technical direction and the Head of Platform Engineering for broader platform strategy, the central Observability and Security teams to ensure alignment and unblock dependencies.

Requirements

  • Understands the "North Star" for metrics, logs, traces, and security posture for E-Commerce services. You work with teams to propose solutions that ensure their services are observable and secure by default.
  • Guide the team in building tools and patterns that validate availability, performance, scalability, and security through tooling defaults, scorecards, and automation.
  • Lead the creation of reference implementations. When a developer starts a new project, your "SecOps & Observability bootstrap" gives them excellent visibility and security posture on Day 1 via a true self-serve model.
  • Encourage the team to work in small, testable chunks, prioritising the most impactful needs, shipping capabilities, and measuring adoption before moving on.
  • Manage Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies for the SecOps and observability domains, ensuring technical debt is visible and managed.
  • Lead sprint planning and support the delivery manager with retrospectives and other ceremonies, ensuring clear priorities and consistent delivery.
  • Be the face of the team, visible and available, building a platform product that engineers want to use rather than just features.
  • Frame options clearly and help prioritise based on impact and effort when working with stakeholders.
  • Lead by doing - writing code and documentation that others can use, demonstrating patterns with working examples rather than theoretical models.
  • Build tools to measure adoption and show impact - such as how capabilities improved debugging, reduced investigation time, or reduced vulnerabilities.
  • Treat product teams as customers, proactively seeking feedback to ensure the platform reduces their cognitive load.
Benefits
  • Flexibility, with remote and hybrid work options (country-dependent)
  • Career advancement, with international mobility and professional development programs
  • Learning and development, with access to cutting-edge tools, training and industry experts
