About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide comprehensive legal advice and support to VALR departments and stakeholders locally and globally
- Escalate complex matters to the Senior Legal Manager where appropriate
- Support development and implementation of legal strategies to mitigate risk and ensure compliance
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, templates, policies, procedures, and other legal documents
- Monitor the evolving cryptocurrency regulatory landscape and support engagement with regulators on new legislation
- Assist with global expansion, business development, and regulatory compliance
- Protect VALR’s rights and limit risks on projects including product launches, mergers and acquisitions, financing rounds, and entity creation
- Handle ad hoc customer issues and queries
- Conduct legal research and provide clear, concise analysis of legal issues
- Provide training and coaching to internal resources on legal matters and policies
- Liaise with external counsel, regulators, and law enforcement under Senior Legal Manager guidance
- Maintain and update legal databases, templates, and records
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 3 years of legal experience, ideally with exposure to fintech, crypto, or financial services sectors
- Experience in a top-tier law firm or high-growth business is highly advantageous
- Knowledge of emerging financial regulation, particularly in crypto and digital assets, is advantageous but not essential
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, remote-first business
- Strong business acumen with a practical and solutions-oriented approach to legal matters
- Passion for crypto, blockchain, and/or alternative financial systems
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Ability to remain calm and effective when managing sensitive or high-pressure matters, including crisis management processes
- Strong problem-solving skills with a flexible and innovative approach
- Ability to identify emerging trends, anticipate potential risks, and apply sound judgement
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Willingness to contribute to strategic legal initiatives and practical day-to-day legal requirements
- Ability to support the Senior Legal Manager and wider Legal team across the Group
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent international legal qualification
- Admission as an attorney or equivalent legal professional status preferred
