About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead performance improvement projects across UVA Community Health
- Coach leaders and team members on the Lean Management System
- Deliver formal and informal instruction in quality tools, data analysis, and statistical process control
- Facilitate improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, Change Management, Project Management, and CQI tools
- Collaborate with administrators, managers, and physicians to identify, coach, and support performance improvement projects
- Deliver improvement support to inpatient units, outpatient units, procedural departments, and ancillary support services
- Provide project management services, scope projects, and link them to strategic plans and key work processes
- Develop and update management plans, project plans, reporting mechanisms, issue resolution processes, and communications
- Lead and coach teams to complete performance improvement projects
- Act as a change agent and gain support from leaders and team members
- Develop curricula and deliver classroom and just-in-time process improvement training
- Serve as a liaison for hospital staff on quality-related projects and programs
- Connect leaders and frontline staff with organizational resources
- Partner with administrative and clinical leaders to establish and maintain the Lean Management System
- Facilitate workgroups, committees, and task forces
- Collect, analyze, and display quantitative and qualitative data
- Identify relationships among complex activities and opportunities for improvement
- Improve patient outcomes, care experience, resource utilization, operational efficiency, satisfaction, and financial outcomes
- Evaluate processes, tools, and workflows for continuous improvement
- Support performance sustainability through post-implementation maintenance and monitoring
- Participate in Survey Command Center activities for regulatory survey readiness
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field or Engineering required
- Minimum 5 years’ experience facilitating performance/process improvement projects in an acute care hospital setting using CQI tools and mentoring leaders and/or frontline staff
- Minimum 3 years’ experience if Master’s prepared
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required
- CPHQ required within 2 years of hire
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
- Ability to independently manage multiple projects
- Ability to apply critical thinking to clinical, operational, and financial challenges
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to drive change, gain buy-in, and sustain improvements
- Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and bend/stoop
- Ability to perform frequent repetitive body movements
- Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills
- Attention to detail and ability to write legibly
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs. occasionally
