About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Administer intravesical therapy
Travel between Urology of Indiana offices to provide continuity for intravesical therapy
Triage patients
Assist with benefits investigations for new therapeutics
Assist with administering therapeutics involved in clinical trials
Provide patient education
Provide staff education on new therapeutics
Collaborate with the Research Department and care teams
Check schedules and organize patient flow
Escort and assist patients in exam/procedure rooms, including walking transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation
Collect patient histories and perform screenings per provider guidelines
Assist physicians and nurses with procedures
Chart and relay instructions to patients and families
Answer calls and provide pertinent information
Send and receive medical records and obtain lab, X-ray, hospital, and referral information
Complete forms and requisitions
Schedule appointments
Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics
Manage and update patient charts
Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits
Clean sterilizer and maintain required records
Order, sort, store, and restock supplies
Respect and promote patient rights
Respond appropriately to emergency codes
Report patient or staff issues to the immediate supervisor
Perform clinical medical assisting duties within the MA scope of practice and applicable state law
Perform sterilization, instrument wrapping, autoclaving, vital signs, drug administration, venipuncture, capillary punctures, specimen handling, EKGs, emergency triage, and first aid as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

High school diploma or GED
Medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting
Appropriate certificate indicating a passing grade for a specific specialty when working in a specialty department
Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented medical-office externship
Current experience with EKGs, vital signs, venipuncture, capillary punctures, and injections
Ability to solve practical problems involving limited standardization
Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule-based instructions
Thorough knowledge of computer information systems
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing
Ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
