About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee the writing, structuring, and coordination of complex, large-scale funding proposals to provincial, federal, and international agencies (e.g., Alberta Innovates, DND IDEaS, NATO DIANA, NSERC).
  • Collaborate with academic researchers and technical teams to translate highly specialized engineering data and research artifacts into accessible briefing notes, executive summaries, and formal progress reports.
  • Draft formal milestone reports that accurately map technical outputs against the program's economic KPIs, including job creation, Technology Readiness Level (TRL) advancement, and private investment.
  • Oversee the DEFENDS document management system, ensuring compliance with national security guidelines and data classification models.
  • Monitor global defence and technology trends to inform grant application strategies.
  • Advise the Director and Director of Operations on internal and external communication strategies.
  • Partner with researchers and project leads to gather technical specifications and track deliverables.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A university degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, English, or Science/Engineering.
  • Minimum five years of professional work experience preparing grants, scientific manuscripts, or technical reports.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific and technical information into clear, compelling, and accessible language.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, meet strict deadlines, and work independently with a high degree of initiative.
  • Strong research and information-gathering skills to source and verify data from various subject matter experts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace with experience working across multiple platform ecosystems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and work productively with great autonomy.
  • Must be willing and eligible to undergo security training and clearance processes as required by project-specific mandates.
