About the role

  • Actively contribute to ongoing statistics and machine learning projects at the institute, with a particular focus on the interaction between federated machine learning and data heterogeneity
  • Collaborate on innovative AI projects in the fields of cardiology and intensive care medicine
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate modern AI methods for analyzing clinical data as well as LLM-based systems (including retrieval-augmented generation and related architectures)
  • Prepare and publish scientific results in international journals and conferences
  • Provide methodological and conceptual support for third-party funding acquisition

Requirements

  • Completed doctoral degree (PhD) in Medical Informatics, Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Solid knowledge in statistics and machine learning
  • Experience in the analysis and processing of clinical data and/or experience designing and implementing LLM-based systems, e.g., prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agent-based approaches
  • Excellent programming skills in Python or equivalent, and experience with common ML and LLM frameworks
  • Basic understanding of software engineering principles (e.g., version control, documentation, clean code structure)
  • High motivation, an independent and solution-oriented working style, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Good German and English skills to work in our international team
