About the role

  • Actively shape and advance ongoing machine learning and AI projects at the institute
  • Work on innovative AI use cases from various medical specialties, particularly cardiology and intensive care medicine
  • Develop, implement and evaluate modern AI methods for the analysis of clinical data as well as LLM-based systems (including Retrieval-Augmented Generation and related architectures)
  • Prepare and publish scientific results in international journals and at conferences
  • Contribute methodologically and conceptually to the acquisition of third-party funding

Requirements

  • Completed university degree (Master/Diploma/PhD) in Medical Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or a related field
  • Solid knowledge in machine learning and deep learning
  • Experience in analysis and processing of clinical data and/or experience in designing and implementing LLM-based systems, e.g., prompting, fine-tuning, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or agent-based approaches
  • Very good programming skills in Python and experience with common ML and LLM frameworks
  • Basic understanding of software engineering principles (e.g., version control, documentation, clean code structure)
  • High motivation, an independent and solution-oriented working style, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Good German and English skills to work effectively in our international team
