About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Leads and manages the estimating department to ensure accurate, timely, and competitive project bids for contracted D&H projects
- Oversees the preparation, review, and approval of all project estimates, proposals, and final bid submissions
- Establishes estimating standards, procedures, and best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and profitability
- Provides leadership and guidance to estimators and support staff, including coaching, training, performance management, and professional development
- Directs pre-bid and post-bid evaluations to assess estimate accuracy, identify trends, and implement process improvements
- Develops and maintains strategic relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable service
- Reviews and evaluates subcontractor and vendor proposals for completeness, accuracy, compliance, and overall value
- Oversees the development of detailed scopes of work (SOW) to support accurate project estimates and successful project execution
- Conducts comprehensive cost analysis using geo-technical reports, drawings, specifications, historical data, and site-specific information to develop well-rounded project estimates
- Analyzes labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to establish accurate labor hour requirements and project budgets across all phases of work
- Monitors market trends, labor conditions, material pricing, and industry developments that may impact project costs and estimating strategies
- Leads risk assessment activities throughout the estimating and project lifecycle to identify and mitigate financial, operational, and contractual risks
- Collaborates with operations, project management, procurement, finance, and other departments to ensure alignment between estimating, project execution, and company objectives
- Develops reporting metrics and cost analysis tools to evaluate estimating performance, productivity, and profitability goals
- Makes strategic recommendations to leadership regarding pricing strategies, project timelines, staffing needs, and cost reduction opportunities
- Maintains the integrity and accuracy of estimating documentation, historical cost databases, supplier pricing, and bid records
- Ensures all estimating activities comply with company policies, contractual requirements, industry standards, and applicable regulations
- Promotes and enforces compliance with all company safety policies and procedures as outlined in the D&H employee and safety handbooks
- Participates in leadership meetings, strategic planning initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to support organizational growth and operational excellence
- Performs all other duties as assigned
