About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Process and draft non-client communications
Review and respond to non-client mail
Update contact records and maintain the legal database
Review case records and central prison files
Compile housing, employment, and other support resources
Write memos regarding policy updates
Conduct research in central files
Participate in virtual conference calls as a note taker
Provide general support to the Legal Team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Undergraduate student; any major
Compassion for incarcerated people and their family members
Demonstrated interest in criminal justice reform
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professional demeanor and pleasant disposition
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Sensitivity to confidential matters
Ability to work part-time, 15–20 hours per week, over the 2026/27 Academic Calendar
Ability to work at least 8 hours per week at the Oakland office
Working proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Suite, and CRM software (strongly preferred)
Spanish language skills (strongly preferred)
