About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead delivery of a portfolio of monitoring, evaluation and related strategic activity
- Lead and support the design and delivery of strategic evaluations of new activities
- Encourage best practice and build evaluation capability
- Provide support and guidance in developing logic models
- Execute evaluation plans and participate in steering and advisory groups
- Develop evidence syntheses and processes to disseminate and embed evidence of impact
- Manage stakeholders across challenge teams and UKRI
- Design and deliver mission evaluation activity, including contract managing independent evaluations of major challenge investments
- Co-develop and implement monitoring and evaluation plans with internal and external partners
- Lead monitoring and assessment of outcomes and benefits from mission funding activities
- Develop and synthesise evidence about programme and investment impact, including case studies
- Participate in R&DMAP Evaluation Working Groups and share lessons across missions
- Set up and deliver performance reporting structures and processes
- Contribute to scoping, development, commissioning and management of research and innovation investments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Professional competency and technical skills reflecting expertise in research, monitoring and evaluation, ideally through a recognised and certified qualification
- Demonstrable understanding of monitoring and evaluation and its uses, including awareness of a range of evaluation approaches for meeting specific objectives
- Strong experience in design and delivery of impact evaluations of complex programmes
- Sophisticated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and an ability to think strategically
- Ability to translate evidence effectively, explain technical information clearly, and describe implications, risks and uncertainties of analysis to varied audiences
- Ability to plan and prioritise own work and the work of others, including responding flexibly to changing requirements and ambiguity
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain connections and influence to secure effective outcomes
- Energy sector knowledge and experience (desirable)
- Understanding of or experience in economic evaluation methods, including CBA, CEA, CMA, and CUA (desirable)
- Ability to build influential networks and manage relationships across stakeholder and cross-functional teams (desirable)
- Background in facilitation and/or stakeholder engagement and relationship management, including focus groups or workshops (desirable)
- Understanding of the R&I funding landscape and UKRI's role (desirable)
- Baseline Personnel Security Screening (BPSS) required as a pre-condition of employment
