About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the civil utilities design strategy across major rail and transit projects throughout Canada
  • Oversee utility investigations, conflict analysis, relocation design, and coordination with utility owners and stakeholders
  • Act as the key technical authority for utility engineering within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Manage and mentor engineers and designers, helping build a high-performing utilities capability within TYLin’s growing transit practice
  • Coordinate closely with civil, structural, track, systems, and construction teams to ensure fully integrated design solutions
  • Drive innovation in utility design practices, digital workflows, and coordination standards (including BIM / digital delivery environments)
  • Engage directly with clients, utility agencies, municipalities, and contractors to resolve complex utility interfaces
  • Support proposal development, pursuit strategies, and project planning for major transit bids and active programs
  • Ensure all deliverables meet regulatory requirements, client standards, and TYLin’s quality expectations.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada – required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in civil utility engineering, preferably within transportation, rail, transit, or large infrastructure programs
  • Proven experience leading utility coordination on complex urban infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of underground utilities, relocation design, utility protection methods, and coordination processes
  • Experience working with public agencies, utility companies, and major infrastructure stakeholders
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to confidently engage clients and external partners
  • Familiarity with Canadian standards, municipal infrastructure requirements, and transit agency processes
  • Ability to balance technical depth with strategic oversight and project delivery leadership.
