About the role
- Provide personalized one-on-one in-home tutoring to students with special needs
- Help students with daily activities and offer moral support
- Deliver tailored instruction based on students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Provide homework support and academic reinforcement in Algebra, ELA, and general core subjects
- Assist with reading comprehension across content areas
- Support writing development including grammar, sentence structure, organization, and expression
- Use visual aids, interactive tools, and student interests to make lessons engaging
- Create a positive, encouraging environment that supports confidence and self-expression
- Break down complex concepts into manageable steps with guided practice
- Foster study skills, organization, and task completion strategies
- Conduct 2 sessions per week (1 hour 15 minutes each) focusing on Math, Reading, and SEL support
Requirements
- Special education experience
- Experience tutoring or teaching middle school students
- Ability to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring
- Experience with Algebra, ELA, reading comprehension, writing development, and SEL support
- Ability to deliver instruction based on Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Use visual aids, interactive tools, and student interests to engage lessons
- Strong communication and rapport-building skills
- Creative, outgoing, and comfortable working with high-energy, social learners
- Spanish bilingual is a plus (not required)
- Background in education, special education, or youth development is a bonus
- Availability for 2 sessions a week, 1 hour 15 minutes per session
