About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the entire commercial underwriting process internally and externally with prospects and clients
  • Underwrite, structure, and document prospect and client transactions
  • Independently run increasingly complex leveraged and sponsor-owned credit deals
  • Analyze company performance, industry and competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic events
  • Perform in-depth analysis of financial statements, projections, and business plans
  • Identify and mitigate key credit risks
  • Recommend and model appropriate loan structures
  • Manage assigned portfolio performance, trends, risk ratings, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, compliance, and regulatory reviews
  • Manage portfolio amendments and waivers
  • Expand client relationships through direct client calling efforts
  • Develop credit solutions with internal product partners
  • Partner with Investment Banking peers on complex financing solutions
  • Maintain and share expertise on corporate, investment, and commercial banking solutions and market trends
  • Manage Associates and Analysts and mentor junior PMs, Associates, and Analysts
  • Provide independent current and forward-looking risk views and risk recommendations
  • Handle a large portfolio and lead platform-wide initiatives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field
  • At least 5+ years of progressive experience in middle market credit and/or mid corporate underwriting, leveraged finance, sponsor finance, and portfolio management within a bank or direct lending environment
  • Mastery-level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound credit skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Preferred: Master’s or equivalent combination of education and experience or other related advanced degree
  • Preferred: Similar role with a commercial financial institution or comparable experience
  • Preferred: Industry or sub-sector expertise
  • Preferred: Mastery of Truist Bank operating systems and Commercial applications such as MRA, salesforce.com, and nCino
