About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • The Business Unit Risk Advisor I engages with Business Unit leadership in its management of risks and controls as well as its execution of risk program requirements.
  • Execute, facilitate and/or monitor execution of Risk Program requirements (e.g., RCSA, KRIs, etc.).
  • Provide strategic insight and challenge, risk advisory advice and influence to across enterprise resiliency, governance, strategic planning and execution, regulatory reporting, and technology assess, monitor, and influence the management of risks and controls, ensuring alignment with the institution’s risk appetite, regulatory expectations, and industry best practices.
  • The BURA I executes, facilitates, and monitors risk program requirements, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), issue management, and governance forums, while aggregating and reporting material risks and emerging trends to senior leadership and risk committees.
  • The BURA I is accountable for concurring with material risk-taking activities, escalating unacceptable risks, and advising on remediation strategies related to process, people, technology, and external events.
  • The role plays a critical part in advancing a strong risk culture and enhancing the resilience of critical operations, technologies, and services across the enterprise.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent education and related training.
  • 6+ years of experience in a financial institution with emphasis on risk management or equivalent work experience and training, and/or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Experience in compliance and operational risk mitigation and remediation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills in complex environments and with senior leadership.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills adaptable to a dynamic and complex work environment; Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight.
