About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify and recommend suppliers by investigating potential suppliers and researching parts, equipment, machinery, services, and materials availability
- Conduct supplier site visits and evaluate production capability, performance, delivery, and other business criteria
- Complete supplier certification as part of a technical and/or quality team when needed
- Prepare requests for quotations and submit purchase orders with approved suppliers
- Issue purchase orders and agreements accurately reflecting negotiated price, schedule, terms, and conditions
- Maintain accurate lead times for assigned commodities
- Evaluate bids for standard and non-standard items
- Select suppliers for lower-cost or limited-scope items and negotiate price, delivery, quality, and service
- Develop alternate sources of supply by identifying and researching prospective suppliers
- Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, including delivery
- Issue root-cause corrective-action requests for poor-performing suppliers
- Advise personnel of impending supplier failures that may delay production or delivery
- Resolve shipment quality discrepancies by mediating supplier/manufacturing issues
- Facilitate issue resolution through conferences between suppliers and company personnel
- Negotiate and settle damage claims, rejections, losses, material returns, over-shipments, cancellations, and engineering changes with suppliers
- Report accidents, incidents, and near misses to management and notify management of dangerous situations or practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience providing theoretical and practical knowledge in the field
- Three or more years of related experience
- Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPM) preferred
- Knowledge of key purchasing and negotiating methods, principles and concepts and general business operations
- General knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to procurement
- Ability to use standard business application software and specialized purchasing and/or materials systems ERP (Syteline)
- Ability to negotiate effectively to obtain the best price and terms
- Ability to read blueprints preferred
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
- For applicable ITAR/EAR positions: proof of U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residence, or U.S. Immigration Status may be required
- Ability to sit, talk, or hear regularly; stand, walk, and use hands frequently
- Ability to occasionally reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Compliance with EHS policy training and instructions; use of company-provided PPE
