About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Inspect heavy highway, bridge, and road projects
- Ensure contractors comply with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Conduct daily site inspections
- Perform material testing
- Maintain daily logs of materials and project progress
- Ensure compliance with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) standards
- Observe work in progress and inspect paving, drainage, and structural elements
- Prepare daily inspection reports and document workforce and equipment quantities
- Monitor work zones for safety measures, MPT compliance, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements
- Identify unsafe conditions and enforce erosion-control regulations
- Assist Resident Engineers with submittals, pay-item tracking, and monthly estimates of completed work
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of experience in Heavy Highway construction
- NICET II and above certification
- ACI Field Grade I certification
- NJSAT (New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technologists) certification
- Rutgers TCC (Traffic Control Coordinator) certification
- Ability to read complex blueprints
- Strong written communication and technical writing skills
- Familiarity with agency electronic record systems, including Site Manager and CapEx
- Familiarity with New Jersey Department of Transportation or New Jersey Turnpike Authority standards
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to and from job sites
- Excellent computer skills
- Efficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Outlook
