About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Inspect heavy highway, bridge, and road projects to ensure contractors comply with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
Conduct daily site inspections
Perform material testing
Maintain daily logs of materials and project progress
Ensure compliance with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) standards
Observe work in progress and verify procedures and materials adhere to project specifications
Inspect paving, drainage, and structural elements
Prepare daily inspection reports and document workforce and equipment quantities
Monitor work zones for safety measures and OSHA compliance
Identify unsafe conditions and enforce environmental regulations, including erosion control
Assist Resident Engineers with submittals, pay-item tracking, and monthly estimates of completed work

Requirements

What you’ll need

3+ years of experience in Heavy Highway construction
NICET II and above certification
ACI Field Grade I certification
NJSAT (New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technologists) certification
Rutgers TCC (Traffic Control Coordinator) certification
Ability to read complex blueprints
Familiarity with agency electronic record systems, including Site Manager and CapEx
Familiarity with New Jersey Department of Transportation or New Jersey Turnpike Authority standards
Reliable personal vehicle for travel to and from and on the job site
Strong written communication and technical writing skills
Excellent computer skills
Efficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Outlook
