About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Inspect heavy highway, bridge, and road projects to ensure contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
  • Conduct daily site inspections
  • Perform material testing
  • Maintain daily logs of materials and project progress
  • Ensure compliance with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) standards
  • Observe work in progress and inspect paving, drainage, and structural elements
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and document materials, workforce, and equipment quantities
  • Monitor work zones for safety measures and OSHA compliance
  • Identify unsafe conditions and enforce environmental regulations such as erosion control
  • Assist Resident Engineers with submittals, pay-item tracking, and monthly estimates of completed work

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of experience in Heavy Highway construction
  • NICET II and above certification
  • ACI Field Grade I certification
  • NJSAT certification
  • Rutgers TCC (Traffic Control Coordinator) certification
  • Ability to read complex blueprints
  • Strong written communication and technical writing skills
  • Familiarity with agency electronic record systems, including Site Manager and CapEx
  • Familiarity with New Jersey Department of Transportation or New Jersey Turnpike Authority standards
  • Reliable personal vehicle for travel to and from job sites
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Outlook
