About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Inspect heavy highway, bridge, and road projects to ensure contractors comply with project plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Conduct daily site inspections
- Inspect paving, drainage, and structural elements on site
- Perform material testing
- Maintain daily logs of materials and project progress
- Monitor Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) compliance
- Observe work in progress to verify procedures and materials adhere to project specifications
- Prepare daily inspection reports and document workforce and equipment quantities
- Monitor work zones for safety measures, OSHA compliance, and environmental regulations
- Identify unsafe conditions and enforce erosion control requirements
- Assist Resident Engineers with submittals, pay-item tracking, and approval of monthly completed-work estimates
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of experience in Heavy Highway construction
- NICET III and above certification
- ACI Field Grade I certification
- NJSAT (New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technologists) certification
- Rutgers TCC (Traffic Control Coordinator) certification
- Ability to read complex blueprints
- Familiarity with agency electronic record systems, including Site Manager and CapEx
- Familiarity with New Jersey Department of Transportation or New Jersey Turnpike Authority standards
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to and from and on the job site
- Strong written communication and technical writing skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Efficiency in Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Outlook
