About the role

  • Assist with the design, modeling, and plan development of storm water drainage systems.
  • Work alongside Engineers, Designers, and Technicians on transportation infrastructure projects for DOT, local agencies, and design/build contractors.
  • Work directly with a Professional Engineer or Hydrologist and support project teams.
  • Assist with technical report and specification preparation.
  • Participate in formal software trainings, learning seminars, mentorship relationships, and networking events as part of the internship program.
  • Work primarily from the office or assigned project site, with occasional flexible/hybrid arrangements.
  • Commit to a full-time summer schedule (approximately mid-May through mid-August 2026) and be available for occasional overtime.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources or hydrology / hydraulics.
  • Previous experience or training with CADD software (Microstation and AutoCAD).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to ask questions, engage in discussions with team members, and assist with technical report and specification preparation.
  • Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week (mid-May through mid-August 2026) with occasional overtime.
  • Primarily work from office or assigned project site; may accept flexible/hybrid arrangements.
  • Preferred: Previous experience with GIS and drainage software (SWMM, P8, HEC programs).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of MnDOT design and plan standards.
