Work alongside civil engineers and technicians on Rail team projects
Engage in site planning, roadway, utility, parking lot, grading and drainage, storm water management, and track design projects
Contribute to development of preliminary and final designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Perform calculations for project dimensions and elevations as well as earthwork, utilities, and track quantities
Assist with preliminary site assessments and surveys
Support construction administration responsibilities by providing information and feedback on construction status and potential construction or design-related challenges
Collaborate with other team members and internal contacts throughout project life cycle from conception through construction
Primarily work from office in Bloomington, Minnesota or assigned project site; availability for 40 hours/week (mid-May through mid-August) with occasional overtime
Requirements
Undergraduate pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
Previous experience or formal training with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation
Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills; Ability to ask questions and engage in discussions with team members and other internal contacts
Ability to work outdoors, walk and climb over rough terrain while carrying up to 40 pounds, and travel as needed for construction administration and site inspections/visits
Must be at least 21 years of age by May 30, 2026
Possession of a valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Ability to complete and pass background, security, and drug test requests required by TKDA, clients, and state and/or federal agencies
Pre-employment background screening: Social Security verification, educational verification, review of criminal convictions, and driving history
Preferred: Previous coursework or project assignments related to site design and land development; general understanding of drafting techniques, plan development, and related engineering practices; previous experience developing construction plans and specifications; previous experience with construction administration or surveying responsibilities, including operation of instruments, recording and interpreting data, and staking
