About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review and/or prepare sales/use tax returns across jurisdictions
- Oversee exemption certificate processes and resolve complex documentation issues
- Identify and mitigate indirect tax exposure risks
- Prepare personal property tax returns, review valuation notices, and process tax payments
- Support railcar ad valorem filings, including return preparation and notice review
- Conduct and document technical research on complex indirect tax issues
- Interpret regulations and provide actionable recommendations to management
- Serve as a subject matter expert for sales/use and property tax matters
- Review tax-related journal entries and ensure proper accounting treatment
- Support financial reporting and internal controls
- Lead initiatives to improve tax processes, internal controls, and workflow automation
- Lead or significantly contribute to audits, system implementations, and cross-functional projects
- Act as point of contact for external advisors and taxing authorities
- Partner with operations, accounting, and finance teams on tax implications
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 3–6+ years of relevant experience in sales/use or property tax compliance
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required
- Experience with property tax software (e.g., PTMS) is a plus
- Advanced analytical and technical research capabilities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and operate independently
- Detail-oriented with strong review and quality control capabilities
- Ability to work on-site at the Lake Oswego, Oregon office is preferred
